Definition
The act of a platform removing, suspending, or banning a creator's account, effectively eliminating their ability to publish, distribute, or monetize content on that platform. Deplatforming can be temporary (suspension) or permanent (ban) and may result from policy violations, advertiser pressure, legal action, or platform-level editorial decisions. For creators who have built their entire audience and income on a single platform, deplatforming represents an existential business risk — the primary argument for platform diversification and building an owned audience.
