Definition
An audience that a creator can reach directly — through email lists, SMS lists, or owned community platforms — without depending on a third-party platform's algorithm or permission. An owned audience is the most valuable and resilient asset a creator can build, because it cannot be taken away by algorithm changes, account bans, or platform shutdowns. Building an owned audience is the primary strategic defense against digital sharecropping.
