Vanity Metrics

Also known as:Superficial MetricsEgo Metrics

Definition

Data points that appear impressive on the surface but do not reliably correlate with business outcomes, audience quality, or revenue generation. Subscriber count, total views, and follower numbers are classic vanity metrics — they are visible, shareable, and emotionally satisfying, but they tell you very little about whether your content is actually working. Creators who optimize for vanity metrics often build large audiences that do not convert into customers or sustainable income.
