Definition
A one-sided emotional relationship in which an audience member develops a sense of personal connection, familiarity, and intimacy with a creator who does not know them individually. Parasocial relationships are a natural and powerful feature of the creator-audience dynamic — they are why audiences feel like they 'know' a creator after watching hundreds of hours of their content. Understanding parasocial dynamics helps creators build deeper community, but also requires ethical awareness about the emotional dependency they can foster.
