Definition
The Engagement Graph (also called the Audience Retention graph) in YouTube Studio is a visual representation of viewer engagement throughout a video, showing the percentage of viewers still watching at each moment. Peaks in the graph indicate moments that resonated strongly with viewers — often used to identify the most engaging segments of a video. Dips indicate where viewers are dropping off or skipping. The graph also shows relative retention (how the video performs compared to similar-length videos on YouTube) and absolute retention (the raw percentage of viewers remaining). Creators use the Engagement Graph to optimize video structure, pacing, and content decisions.
