Definition
The process by which a creator, author, or content producer publishes and distributes their work independently — without the involvement of a traditional publishing house, record label, or media company. Self-publishing gives creators full ownership of their intellectual property, higher royalty rates, and complete creative control, at the cost of bearing all production, marketing, and distribution responsibilities themselves. In the creator economy, self-publishing is the default model and a direct expression of the ownership-first philosophy.
