NIL Deal

Also known as:Name Image LikenessNIL Agreement

Definition

A Name, Image, and Likeness deal — a brand partnership in which a creator, athlete, or public figure is compensated specifically for the use of their personal identity, likeness, or name in brand marketing rather than for content production. NIL deals became prominent in college athletics following 2021 NCAA rule changes but are equally relevant to creators, who can license their name, face, and brand identity to companies independently of content deliverables.
