Definition
A matte box is a camera accessory that attaches to the front of a lens to hold filters (ND, polarizer, diffusion), block stray light from entering the lens, and prevent lens flare. Matte boxes are standard equipment on professional film and video productions and are increasingly used by high-production-value YouTube creators to achieve a cinematic look and manage challenging lighting conditions.
