Definition
A fictitious business name (FBN) is a registered name used by a business or individual that is different from their legal name — also known as a DBA (Doing Business As) or trade name. Filing a fictitious business name is typically required when operating under a name other than your legal name, and enables the business to open bank accounts, sign contracts, and conduct business under the registered name.
