Drop-Off Rate

Also known as:Viewer Drop-OffAudience Drop-Off

Definition

Drop-off rate is the percentage of viewers who stop watching a video at a specific point in time, as measured by audience retention analytics. High drop-off rates at particular timestamps indicate content problems — confusing transitions, slow pacing, or unfulfilled promises — that creators can use to improve future videos. Drop-off rate is closely related to the audience retention curve in YouTube Analytics.
